"God Bless America." We saw it everywhere right after 9/11. "One Nation Under God" is not quite so prevalent, but still popular on some roadside marquees. My only question is, "What part and which nation?" What part of America do you want God to bless? The Abortion clinics? The humanist public school? The National Endowment for the Arts? Hmnn… The latest affront, of course, is the attempt to remove the "Under God" portion of the Pledge of Allegiance. I personally don't think God cares if its in there. But I do think he cares about our hearts and the attitudes that flows from them, for He said, "Blessed in the nation whose God is the Lord." Strengthen your faith by remembering, history is His Story!

Article - History Is Rich In Irony!

The Supreme Court has agreed to look at the involving the Pledge of Allegiance to see if the words "under God" violate the "constitutional separation of church and state." Leaving aside the fact that "separation of church and state" are words that are not found anywhere in the constitution, the mantra of separation is what activist judges are using to remove any reference to religion from public life. The modern day argument of separation of church and state stems from the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, specifically what is referred to as the establishment clause. The exact wording is "Congress shall make no laws respecting the establishment of religion…" Fisher Ames proposed the wording for 1st Amendment in the House of Representatives. Certainly if there were a person who knew the intent of the amendment, it would be Mr. Ames. Indeed, many claim that the Founding Father's intended the first amendment to "erect a wall of separation between church and state." This was the argument put forth by the Supreme Court in 1947 when they first enshrined that phase in American jurisprudence. But wouldn't it be logical to assume that if that was their intent, Fisher Ames, the author if the 1st amendment would agree with that? On September 20, 1789, one month after he proposed the 1st Amendment, Mr. Ames stated, "We have a dangerous trend beginning to take place in our education. We've started to put more and more textbooks into our schools… We are spending less time in the classroom on the Bible, which should be the principal text in our schools." Oh, the irony of it all. The man who wrote the words that have been used to justify the removal of prayer and bibles, and all manner of religious paraphernalia believed, "The Bible states these great moral lessons better than any other manmade book!" Isn't history rich!

Article - Speaking of the Pledge…

The original poem which became the Pledge of Allegiance was written by Francis Bellamy, who was ordained in the Baptist Church of Little Falls, New York. He was also a member of the staff of the Youth's Companion, which first published his Pledge of Allegiance on September 8, 1892. Public school first recited the Pledge at the dedication of the 1892 Chicago World's Fair. The Pledge of Allegiance was officially adopted by Congress on December 28, 1945. Later, a Joint Resolution of Congress added the words, "under God. They were taken from President Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address, "…that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom…" President Eisenhower gave his full support to the resolution adding the words, saying: "In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource." Loosing that resource is why we must not allow judges to remove those words.

Article - What Hath God Wrought?

Samuel Morse is, of course, best known for his invention of the telegraph, which was the most significant advancement in the area of communications since writing was developed. He was also a faithful Christian. Four years before he died, he gave this strong testimony of his faith: "The nearer I approach to the end of my pilgrimage, the clearer is the evidence of the divine origin of the Bible, the grandeur and sublimity of God's remedy for fallen man are more appreciated, and the future is illuminated with hope and joy." Article - Seeking Revival

Herbert Hoover, in 1943, issued a joint statement with Mrs. Calvin Coolidge, Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt, Mrs. William H. Taft, Mrs. Benjamin Harrison, Mrs. Grover Cleveland, Alfred Smith, Alfred Landon, James M. Cox, and John W. Davis:"Menaced by collectivist trends, we must seek revival of our strength in the spiritual foundations which are the bedrock of our republic. Democracy is the outgrowth of the religious conviction of the sacredness of every human life. On the religious side, its highest embodiment is The Bible, on the political side, the Constitution."

Quote

"Without God there is no virtue because there is no prompting of the conscience… If we ever forget we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a Nation gone under." Ronald Wilson Reagan, August 23, 1984
